Insulation Rebate... Get in Quick Before it Disappears Altogether!
Overview
The Federal Government’s Energy Efficient Homes Package was changed for a second time on Sunday 1st November. The rebate was dropped from $1600 to $1200 effective immediately. Customers who had already approved quotes prior to this date can still claim the $1600 insullation provided it is installed prior to the 16th November 2009. More Information on the Federal Government Rebate
The Federal Government’s Energy Efficient Homes Package (EEHP) aims to encourage Australian homeowners to improve the energy efficiency of their home through:
- Installing ceiling insulation worth up to $1,200 for owner-occupiers or landlords; OR
- a $1,600 rebate on the cost of installing a solar hot water system; OR
- a $1,000 rebate on the cost of installing a heat pump hot water system.
These rebates are non-means tested which means that all homeowners who meet the eligibility criteria can apply regardless of income earned. The rebates for Solar Hot Water and Insulation end in the latter half of 2011 – so the time to act is NOW!
IMPORTANT - You are only eligible to apply for one EEHP rebate per address. This means that if you have already received the EEHP rebate for Insulation you will not be eligible for the EEHP rebate for Solar Hot Water and visa versa.
Eligibility Requirements for Ceiling Insulation for Homeowners, Renters and Landlords
You are eligible for the Federal Homeowner Insulation Program ceiling insulation rebate of up to $1200 if you:
- are an Australian Citizen or Permanent Resident aged 18 years or over;
- are the owner and occupier (primary place of residence) of the dwelling; OR
- the landlord of the dwelling where the insulation was installed at the time the insulation was installed; OR
- the tenant of a dwelling with evidence of the landlord's permission (letter from landlord or landlord's agent) to install ceiling insulation in the property; and
- don't already have ceiling insulation in your home or have ceiling insulation that is deemed as having negligible effectiveness (an R-value of 0.5 or less) ;
- the dwelling is not state or territory owned public housing;
- are installing insulation in an existing home on or after 1 July 2009 and before 30 December 2011 (excludes new homes or extensions to existing homes built after 2003);
- have obtained the permission of the Body Corporate (if appropriate - applies to Strata Titled homes/units);
- have not been granted assistance under the solar hot water rebate program at the relevent address since the rebate was increased to $1,600 on 3 February 2009.
